Overview

CTX203 is a first-in-class synthetic helical peptide inspired by apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), a key component of high-density lipoprotein ("good cholesterol"). It is being developed as a lipid-modulating agent for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), specifically targeting patients with intermediate dry AMD who are at risk of progressing to advanced disease. The drug is designed to stabilize expression of the ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 protein, which plays a role in lipid transport by retinal cells, and acts as a complement inhibitor for lipid modulation. By modulating these pathways, CTX203 aims to prevent retinal cell death and vision loss associated with AMD progression. The developer, Character Biosciences, uses genomics-driven approaches to identify genetic subtypes and root causes in degenerative eye diseases.
