Overview

CU-13001 is an oral, brain-penetrant small molecule drug developed by Acurex Biosciences. It is designed as a selective inhibitor of 15-lipoxygenase (15-LO), aiming to reduce the production of 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE). By inhibiting this pathway, CU-13001 reduces LRRK2 kinase hyperactivity and α-synuclein aggregation, both implicated in the pathology of Parkinson's disease. The drug has shown potential for protecting brain cells lost in Parkinson’s in preclinical laboratory studies and represents a novel approach to slowing or stopping neurodegeneration associated with the disease. As of early 2025, it remains in preclinical development with plans for clinical trials underway[1][3][4][7].
