CU-40104 is an investigational topical formulation of dutasteride developed by Cutia Therapeutics for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (hair loss). Dutasteride is a competitive and specific inhibitor of both Type I and Type II 5-alpha reductase enzymes, which are responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp—a primary driver of hair follicle miniaturization in androgenetic alopecia. By utilizing a topical delivery system, CU-40104 is designed to provide high local concentrations of the active ingredient directly to the scalp while minimizing systemic exposure and the potential for side effects typically associated with oral 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. In March 2026, the drug received clinical trial approval (IND) from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), allowing the company to commence clinical trials.
