CU06-RE is an orally administered small molecule drug developed by Curacle for the treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME) and wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD). It is the first vascular endothelial dysfunction blocker developed using Curacle’s SOLVADYS platform technology. The drug acts through multiple mechanisms including inhibition of actin modulation and several inflammatory pathways. Its mechanism of action includes blocking vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), chemokine CCL2 inhibition, histamine release inhibition, interleukin 1 beta (IL1B) inhibition, thrombin inhibition as well as actin modulation. This multi-targeted approach aims to reduce vascular permeability and inflammation in pathological conditions such as DME. Clinical trials have shown that oral administration of the drug improves visual acuity in patients with DME without serious adverse events reported[2][3][6]. Development is ongoing with phase 2a trials completed for DME.
