Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cucumber seed gel is an investigational topical botanical formulation developed by the Tondo Medical Center in the Philippines. It contains an extract derived from the seeds of *Cucumis sativus* (cucumber) and is being evaluated for its photoprotective properties. The gel is studied at concentrations of 2% and 4% to assess its ability to increase the minimal erythema dose (MED) in individuals exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, thereby potentially preventing sunburn and UV-induced erythema. Its mechanism of action is attributed to the antioxidant and UV-absorbing phytochemicals present in the cucumber seed extract, which help mitigate skin damage caused by UVB exposure.
