Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cudrania tricuspidata extract (CTE) is a botanical extract derived from the leaves, roots, or bark of Cudrania tricuspidata (also known as Maclura tricuspidata or Chinese mulberry). Developed primarily by hy (formerly Korea Yakult), the extract is used as a traditional folk remedy and has been clinically evaluated for the treatment of functional dyspepsia. CTE acts as a gastroprotective agent by reducing gastric acid secretion through the competitive inhibition of histamine H2 receptors (H2R) and by increasing the expression of gastric mucin genes (such as MUC5AC and MUC6) to protect the gastric mucosa. Preclinical studies have also demonstrated its potential anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity, and antidiabetic properties, including the inhibition of protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) and reduction of oxidative stress.
