CuHL is a copper(II)-acylhydrazone complex, chemically identified as [Cu(HL)(H2 O)](NO3 )⋅H2 O, that is being investigated for its anticancer properties, particularly against breast cancer. It has demonstrated stronger anticancer activity than cisplatin in MCF7 breast cancer cell models. Its mechanism of action involves interacting with the minor groove of DNA, leading to genotoxic effects, and inhibiting the activity of 20S proteasome subunits. These actions collectively induce apoptosis in breast cancer cells at low micromolar concentrations and reduce the formation and alter the morphology of mammospheres.
