Overview
Cumin and ginger extract artificial saliva is a botanical-based oral spray developed by Chulalongkorn University for the management of xerostomia (dry mouth), particularly in patients undergoing hemodialysis. The formulation utilizes the synergistic effects of *Cuminum cyminum* (cumin) and *Zingiber officinale* (ginger) extracts. Ginger is known to act as a sialogogue, stimulating the production of natural saliva through the activation of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) receptors and potentially cholinergic pathways. This product functions both as a saliva substitute to lubricate the oral mucosa and as a stimulant to increase endogenous salivary flow, thereby improving oral health and quality of life in patients with dialysis-associated dry mouth.
