Cupric glycinate is a coordination complex of copper(II) and glycine (bis(glycinato)copper(II)), used primarily as a dietary source of copper in animal feeds and veterinary medicine[1][6]. It is also known as a feed additive for the prevention and treatment of copper deficiency in cattle and sheep[2][6]. The compound can exist as monohydrate or dihydrate blue solids with varying water solubility[3][6]. In biological systems, it serves to supplement essential trace element requirements for enzymes that depend on copper as a cofactor. Its mechanism involves providing bioavailable ionic copper necessary for normal physiological processes such as oxidative phosphorylation (via cytochrome c oxidase), antioxidant defense (via superoxide dismutase), and other cuproenzyme activities[8].
