The drug is primarily used for the relief of sudden muscle cramps, leg cramps, and muscle spasms. In clinical research, it has been evaluated in a Phase 3 randomized, placebo-controlled trial for the treatment of hemodialysis-induced muscle cramps in patients with chronic kidney disease. It is formulated as meltaway pellets that dissolve sublingually without the need for water.
