Overview
Curcuma wenyujin root aqueous extract is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparation derived from the roots of *Curcuma wenyujin*, a plant in the Zingiberaceae (ginger) family. This natural product extract is a complex mixture containing approximately 169 bioactive compounds, including β-elemene, curcumenol, and various sesquiterpenoids. Preclinical research indicates that the extract exerts neuroprotective effects in Alzheimer's disease models by modulating the PI3K/Akt/GSK-3β signaling pathway and reducing tau protein phosphorylation. It also demonstrates vascular endothelial protection against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced damage by inhibiting the TLR4 signaling pathway and reducing the expression of matrix metalloproteinases MMP2 and MMP9. Beyond neuroprotection and vascular health, the extract has shown anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antioxidant, and hepatoprotective properties in academic studies. It is currently utilized as a research compound and is not yet a commercially developed pharmaceutical product.
