Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Curcuma zedoaria is a perennial herb in the ginger family (Zingiberaceae), commonly known as zedoary or white turmeric. The rhizome is used in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, digestive stimulant, and blood-invigorating properties[1][3][4][5][6]. It contains bioactive compounds including curcuminoids and sesquiterpenes like furanodiene and germacrone[5]. Traditionally used to treat inflammation, pain (including menstrual cramps), skin ailments (wounds), digestive disorders (indigestion, bloating), respiratory issues (coughs), liver conditions, menstrual irregularities and as an aphrodisiac[1][3][4][5]. In TCM it is called E Zhu and classified among herbs that invigorate blood and move Qi to relieve pain or dissolve accumulations[6][7]. Modern research has shown potential anti-cancer activity against certain cancer cell lines as well as antimicrobial effects[3].
