Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Curcumin + zinc refers to molecular complexes and co-delivery systems designed to enhance the therapeutic potential of the polyphenolic compound curcumin by complexing it with the essential mineral zinc. A prominent commercial form is TurmiZn-OS, a proprietary molecular complex where zinc forms a covalent bond with curcumin and tetrahydrocurcumin to significantly improve aqueous solubility, stability, and bioavailability compared to standard curcumin. These complexes exert multi-faceted biological effects, including potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, and the modulation of key signaling pathways such as PI3K/AKT/mTOR and MAPK. Emerging research also highlights their role in promoting mitophagy via the PINK1/Parkin pathway, offering neuroprotective potential. They are primarily developed as nutraceuticals for managing prediabetes, diabetes, inflammatory conditions, and neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson's disease.
