Overview

Curcumin monoglucoside is a synthetic or semi-synthetic derivative of curcumin, a diarylheptanoid polyphenol, conjugated with a single glucose moiety to improve its solubility and bioavailability[1][7][13]. It possesses antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, neuroprotective, and antibacterial effects[13][7]. Studies show that curcumin monoglucoside (also referenced as "curcumin-glucoside" or "Curc-gluc") can prevent alpha-synuclein aggregation by promoting alpha-helical structure, inhibit metal-induced aggregation, and protect mitochondrial function, making it a promising candidate for neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease[3][6][7][11]. Enhanced water solubility and improved pharmacokinetics significantly differentiate it from curcumin in developing future therapeutics[3][7].
