Overview

Curcumin monoglucuronide (CMG), also known as TBP1901, is a water-soluble small molecule prodrug of curcumin designed to overcome the poor bioavailability and rapid metabolism of the parent compound. As a glucuronic acid conjugate and natural metabolite of curcumin, CMG is converted into free-form curcumin by the enzyme beta-glucuronidase, which is often overexpressed in the tumor microenvironment and at sites of inflammation. This targeted conversion allows for significantly higher systemic and local concentrations of curcumin compared to oral administration. CMG is being investigated for its anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects in various conditions, including colorectal cancer, glioblastoma, prostate cancer, osteoarthritis, and multiple sclerosis.
