Curcumin-preconditioned adipose-derived stem cells (Cur-ADSCs) represent a cell-based therapeutic strategy that combines the regenerative capabilities of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) with the established beneficial properties of curcumin. ADSCs are multipotent mesenchymal stem cells recognized for their multi-directional differentiation potential and significant paracrine effects, making them valuable in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Curcumin, a natural polyphenol extracted from turmeric, is well-known for its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. The preconditioning of ADSCs with curcumin enhances their therapeutic efficacy by improving cell proliferation, migration, and survival, particularly under adverse conditions such as oxidative stress and hyperglycemia. This process also augments their paracrine potential, leading to increased secretion of pro-angiogenic factors and a reduction in inflammatory mediators. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that Cur-ADSCs promote improved wound healing, enhanced angiogenesis, reduced apoptosis, and superior tissue regeneration in models of diabetic wounds, burn wounds, and myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.
