Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Curcuminoid Standardized Turmeric Capsules are an investigational natural product formulation developed by Gadjah Mada University for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The capsules contain a standardized extract of turmeric (Curcuma domestica Val. or Curcuma longa) providing 30 mg of curcuminoids per dose. Curcuminoids are polyphenolic compounds known for their anti-inflammatory properties. The mechanism of action involves the modulation of various inflammatory mediators, including the inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and C-reactive protein (CRP). Clinical research at Gadjah Mada University has focused on evaluating the efficacy of these capsules in reducing pain and improving inflammatory biomarkers in patients with osteoarthritis genu.
