curcumol

**Curcumol** is a natural sesquiterpenoid compound of the guaiane-type hemiketal class, predominantly extracted from the essential oil of Curcumae Rhizoma and found in species such as Curcuma wenyujin, Curcuma aromatica, and Curcuma longa. It is a bioactive molecule used in traditional Chinese medicine, particularly for its anti-cancer, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-convulsant properties[3][5][8]. Pharmacological studies have shown curcumol’s tumor-suppressive activity in cancers including hepatocellular carcinoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, lung adenocarcinoma, ovarian, pancreatic, and breast cancer, as well as regulatory effects in liver fibrosis and viral infections. It acts by modulating cellular apoptotic pathways, immune responses (such as IFN-β secretion), and, based on recent research, allosteric modulation of GABA(A) receptors in neuronal cells[9]. Curcumol is under investigation for various cancers and liver diseases, but it is not an approved pharmaceutical drug in any major regulatory market[5][3].
