Overview

CureXcell is an allogeneic cell therapy composed of activated white blood cells (macrophages, neutrophils, and lymphocytes) derived from healthy donor blood. Developed by Macrocure, it was designed to treat chronic, non-healing wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) and venous leg ulcers (VLU). The therapy utilizes a proprietary hypo-osmotic shock process to activate the cells, which then release a physiological balance of cytokines and growth factors intended to jumpstart the natural wound-healing cascade. Although the therapy reached Phase III clinical trials, development was halted after pivotal studies failed to meet primary endpoints, eventually leading to Macrocure's reverse merger with Leap Therapeutics in 2017.
