Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Curos is a line of disinfecting caps designed for the passive disinfection and protection of needleless connectors and other vascular access ports. Originally developed by Ivera Medical and subsequently acquired by 3M, the Curos system utilizes a sponge saturated with 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to provide a continuous disinfecting environment. When twisted onto a connector, the device mechanically cleans the surface and maintains a chemical barrier that denatures microbial proteins, effectively killing common pathogens such as *Staphylococcus aureus* and *Escherichia coli* within one minute. Clinical data has demonstrated that the implementation of Curos caps as part of an infection control bundle significantly reduces the incidence of catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs) and central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) compared to manual disinfection techniques. The product line includes specialized configurations such as Curos Jet for male luer connectors and Curos Tips for Foley catheter ports.
