Overview

CuTCP is a carborane-containing copper porphyrin designed as a boron delivery agent for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT). It consists of a porphyrin core substituted with carborane clusters, which provide a high density of boron-10 atoms. The compound is specifically investigated for its ability to accumulate in malignant glioma tissues, such as glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), while maintaining low concentrations in normal brain tissue and blood. In preclinical models, CuTCP and its derivatives have demonstrated significant tumor-to-blood and tumor-to-brain boron concentration ratios, making them promising candidates for enhancing the efficacy of BNCT by delivering therapeutic levels of boron-10 to tumor cells for subsequent neutron irradiation.
