Overview

CV0701 is a bivalent, investigational mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine candidate developed by CureVac in collaboration with GSK. It encodes the spike protein of both the Omicron BA.4-5 variant and the original SARS-CoV-2 strain. The vaccine is designed as a booster to induce immune responses against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants. In Phase 2 clinical trials, CV0701 demonstrated meaningful increases in neutralizing antibody titers at all tested dose levels, with titers matching or exceeding those induced by a licensed comparator bivalent mRNA COVID-19 vaccine except at the lowest dose level. The mechanism of action involves induction of strong antibody titers and B and T cell responses through delivery of modified mRNA encoding viral antigens via lipid nanoparticles for intramuscular administration. Interim data indicate that CV0701 is generally well tolerated with a favorable safety profile[1][3][6][7].
