Overview

CVAP is a combination chemotherapy regimen used in the treatment of breast cancer, particularly in the neoadjuvant setting. It comprises four distinct antineoplastic agents: cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin (Adriamycin), vincristine, and prednisolone. This multi-drug approach targets rapidly dividing cancer cells through various mechanisms, aiming to shrink tumors before surgery and improve patient outcomes. Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that damages DNA, doxorubicin is an anthracycline that inhibits topoisomerase II and intercalates DNA, vincristine is a vinca alkaloid that disrupts microtubule formation, and prednisolone is a corticosteroid often included for its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects, though it can also have direct cytotoxic effects on certain cancer cells.
