Overview

CVAX-02 (also referred to as the RSV + HMPV vaccine) is a bivalent, live attenuated, recombinant mucosal vaccine candidate developed by CastleVax for the prevention of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) infections. The vaccine utilizes a Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) vector platform licensed from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, which is engineered to express the fusion (F) proteins of both RSV and HMPV. Administered via the intranasal route, CVAX-02 is designed to induce both local mucosal and systemic protective immunity. A key advantage of the NDV vector is the lack of pre-existing immunity to the virus in the human population, which supports its utility as a vaccine vector. The candidate is currently in preclinical development.
