Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CVC-001 is a biosimilar insulin glargine candidate being developed by Civica Inc. (Civica Rx) for the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. As a long-acting human insulin analogue, it is designed to provide a consistent basal level of insulin over approximately 24 hours following subcutaneous injection. The drug is produced using recombinant DNA technology and is intended to be interchangeable with the reference product, Lantus. CVC-001 works by binding to the insulin receptor, which facilitates glucose uptake into peripheral tissues such as skeletal muscle and fat, while simultaneously inhibiting hepatic glucose production. Civica's development of CVC-001 is part of a broader initiative to increase the affordability and accessibility of insulin in the United States by providing biosimilar options at significantly lower transparent prices.
