**CVD 1208S-122** is an investigational, orally administered live-attenuated bacterial-vector vaccine developed at the University of Maryland, Baltimore to prevent infections caused by *Shigella flexneri* and enterotoxigenic *Escherichia coli*. It uses an attenuated *S. flexneri* 2a CVD 1208S backbone with deletions in *guaBA*, *set*, and *sen*, engineered to express ETEC colonization factor antigen I and heat-labile enterotoxin A2/B antigens. The single recombinant bacterial vaccine is intended to induce mucosal and systemic immune responses against both Shigella and ETEC; it was evaluated in a completed Phase 1 oral dose-escalation study in healthy adults.
