Overview

CVD908ssb-TXSVN (also known as TXSVN) is an investigational, orally administered cancer vaccine developed by the Baylor College of Medicine. It consists of a live-attenuated strain of *Salmonella enterica* serovar Typhi (CVD 908-ssb) that has been genetically engineered to express the tumor-associated antigen (TAA) survivin (BIRC5). Survivin is a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) protein family that is highly overexpressed in most human malignancies, including multiple myeloma, but is minimally expressed in normal adult tissues. By utilizing the natural tropism of Salmonella for gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), the vaccine is designed to stimulate a systemic T-cell-mediated immune response against survivin-expressing tumor cells. The CVD 908-ssb vector itself is a well-characterized live-attenuated strain containing deletions in the *aroC*, *aroD*, and *htrA* genes to ensure safety while maintaining immunogenicity.
