Overview

CVT-3619 is a novel oral small molecule partial agonist of the A1 adenosine receptor (A1R), originally developed by CV Therapeutics and later acquired by Gilead Sciences. It was designed as a first-in-class agent for the treatment of cardiometabolic diseases, specifically targeting dyslipidemia and diabetes. The compound's mechanism of action involves inhibiting the release of free fatty acids from adipocytes, which aims to improve insulin sensitivity and address metabolic dysfunction associated with elevated blood lipid levels. Although a Phase 1 clinical trial was initiated in 2008 to evaluate its safety and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers, the development program was subsequently halted, and the drug never received regulatory approval.
