CVX-20733

CVX-20733 is a preclinical-stage small molecule iminosugar developed by COVIRIX Medical for the treatment of COVID-19. It acts as a host-targeted inhibitor of human alpha-glucosidase, an enzyme essential for the proper folding and maturation of viral glycoproteins. By interfering with the glycosylation process, CVX-20733 inhibits the entry and replication of SARS-CoV-2, including variants such as the Beta variant. The drug is designed for inhalational administration to target the primary site of infection in the respiratory tract. In vitro studies have demonstrated potency in Vero cells (EC50 = 19 µg/mL) and significantly higher potency in human respiratory cells.
