Overview

CVXGA is a clinical-stage COVID-19 vaccine candidate administered intranasally. It is based on a proprietary recombinant parainfluenza virus type 5 (PIV5) vector engineered to express the spike (S) protein of SARS-CoV-2. The PIV5 vector was developed at the University of Georgia and is derived from a respiratory virus not known to cause disease in humans but commonly used in veterinary vaccines for dogs. CVXGA aims to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection and serious complications associated with COVID-19 by stimulating robust mucosal, cellular, and humoral immune responses. Preclinical studies have shown that it induces durable immunity and prevents transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Phase 1 and Phase 2 trials have demonstrated immunogenicity with limited or no reactogenicity or serious adverse events related to the vaccine[1][4][5][6].
