Overview

CX-8184 is a next-generation, orally delivered **small molecule inhibitor of protein kinase CK2**, under development primarily for its antiviral and oncologic potential. This compound demonstrates a distinct chemical and pharmaceutical profile compared to its predecessor, Silmitasertib (CX-4945), as it exhibits **more potent and sustained inhibition of multiple CK2-dependent pathways** and **higher antiviral activity**, including enhanced neutralizing and inhibiting ability against viruses. CX-8184 is currently being developed to be administered directly to the lungs, aiming for use as a convenient and broad-spectrum antiviral agent. Preclinical data highlight its impact on key oncogenic and viral pathways regulated by CK2, which is implicated in cancer cell survival and viral infection pathogenesis due to its essential regulatory roles in signalling cascades such as EGFR, Akt, WNT, NF-κB, and the DNA damage response[1][3][5][7][13][14].
