Overview

CX157 is a reversible and selective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A), designed for improved oral bioavailability and reduced clearance compared to previous MAO-A inhibitors. It was investigated for the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders. The drug increases levels of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine, which are vital neurotransmitters affecting mood and anxiety. CX157 was developed by Krenitsky Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and later by CeNeRx BioPharma, Inc. Work on the drug was terminated in 2013.
