CX213 is a ceria-based nanoparticle (nanozyme) developed by Cenyx Biotech for the treatment of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). It functions as a catalytic antioxidant by mimicking the activity of natural enzymes like superoxide dismutase and catalase. The mechanism of action involves the removal of reactive oxygen species (ROS) through a bidirectional electron exchange between Ce3+ and Ce4+ ions on the surface of the ceria nanoparticles. This catalytic cycle allows for the sustained neutralization of oxidative stress, which is a key driver of secondary brain injury following SAH. The drug is currently in preclinical development.
