CXCL-8 antisense vector is a gene therapy approach designed to suppress the expression of C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 8 (CXCL-8), also known as Interleukin-8 (IL-8). CXCL-8 is a chemokine secreted by melanoma and stromal cells that acts as a growth and angiogenic factor, promoting tumor progression, invasion, and metastasis. By utilizing an antisense expression vector, researchers aim to knock down CXCL-8 levels, thereby inhibiting primary tumor growth and reducing metastatic potential. Preclinical studies in melanoma cell lines (such as A375SM) and mouse xenograft models have demonstrated that suppression of CXCL-8 leads to increased cell death and reduced microvessel density.
