Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CXS003 is a patented, low-dose fixed-dose combination of two repositioned antidiabetic drugs, metformin (CXS001) and glibenclamide (CXS002), being developed by CXS Therapeutics and its subsidiary Sappiens. It is designed as a disease-modifying, neuroprotective therapy for neurodegenerative disorders, specifically Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). CXS003 simultaneously targets three key drivers of neurodegeneration: oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Preclinical studies in animal models of Parkinson's disease have demonstrated significant neuroprotective effects, including improved neuronal survival and behavioral recovery. The combination is planned to enter clinical trials in 2027, with a Phase 2 trial scheduled for 2028.
