Cyanobacterial extract L1-O is a research-stage organic extract derived from a cyanobacterial isolate, identified in academic literature as either a *Calothrix* strain (HAN 24/1) or a *Nostoc* strain. It has been investigated for its potent apoptosis-inducing activity against acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells. Preclinical studies published in the journal *Marine Drugs* (2014) demonstrated that L1-O can induce significant cell death in rat AML (IPC-81) and human AML (Molm-13) cell lines. Notably, it is capable of overcoming chemoresistance conferred by the deletion of the tumor suppressor protein p53 and the overexpression of the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2, which typically render leukemia cells resistant to standard chemotherapy. The extract is a crude natural product, and while its bioactivity is well-documented in research settings, no specific active chemical ingredient has been isolated or named for clinical development.
