Drug intelligence / Profile preview
"Vitamin B12 + folinic acid + omega 3 + N-acetyl cysteine" is a personalized neuroprotective combination supplement regimen investigated in the PsyCARE trial (NCT05796401). This multi-component intervention is tailored to an individual's biological profile and consists of cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12), leucovorin (folinic acid), omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA), and acetylcysteine (NAC). The regimen targets biological pathways implicated in early psychosis, including oxidative stress (via NAC as a glutathione precursor), neuroinflammation, glutamatergic signaling (NMDA receptor modulation), and homocysteine metabolism (via B12 and folinic acid). It is used as an adjunct to treatment as usual (TAU) in adolescents and young adults with first-episode psychosis or those at ultra-high risk for developing a chronic psychotic disorder.
