Overview

Cyanocobalamin Co-60 is a radiolabeled analog of vitamin B12, in which the cobalt atom at the core of the cobalamin molecule is replaced with radioactive cobalt isotope Co^60. It was primarily used as a diagnostic agent for pernicious anemia, particularly in the Schilling test to assess vitamin B12 absorption. The compound allowed tracking of B12 uptake and metabolism due to its radioactive properties. Cyanocobalamin Co-60 has been withdrawn from the US market for unknown reasons and is no longer in clinical use[1][3][8].
