Overview

Cyclandelate is a small molecule vasodilator used to treat conditions associated with poor blood circulation such as claudication (pain caused by too little blood flow), arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), Raynaud's disease (a condition causing decreased blood flow to extremities), and nighttime leg cramps. It has also been investigated for migraine prophylaxis. Cyclandelate acts as a direct-acting smooth muscle relaxant that dilates peripheral blood vessels by antagonizing calcium ion channel function in vascular smooth muscle. This leads to relaxation of veins and arteries and improved blood flow[1][2][6]. The drug was formerly distributed in the United States but was discontinued by Wyeth-Ayerst in April 1997; it remains approved in some European countries[1][2]. It is administered orally.
