Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cyclatop is a proprietary 5% cyclosporine A topical spray formulation being developed for the treatment of mild to moderate atopic dermatitis and potentially psoriasis, aiming to reproduce the well‑established efficacy of systemic cyclosporine in inflammatory dermatoses while minimizing systemic exposure and toxicity.[1][2][4][5][8][9][10][11] Developed by Spherium Biomed under an exclusive license from the drug‑delivery company Bionanoplus, the formulation uses a high‑load, skin‑penetrating vehicle that delivers cyclosporine A into target skin layers with blood levels approximately one‑thousandth of those seen with conventional oral or intravenous cyclosporine, resulting in an improved safety profile.[1][5][8][9][10][11] In a multicenter, randomized, double‑blind, vehicle‑controlled phase IIa trial (NCT02865356) involving pediatric and adult patients with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis, twice‑daily application of Cyclatop for 28 days produced statistically and clinically significant improvements in EASI, ADSI, and IGA scores, rapid and marked itch reduction, and excellent tolerability relative to vehicle, with high patient acceptability.[1][5][7][8][9][10][11]
