Cyclic glycine-proline (cGP) is a naturally occurring cyclic dipeptide belonging to the 2,5-diketopiperazine family and is an endogenous metabolite of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). Developed by The cGP Lab Ltd. in New Zealand, cGP functions as a regulator of IGF-1 bioavailability by competing for binding sites on insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3). This mechanism helps normalize IGF-1 function, which is critical for metabolic and neurological health. The compound is being evaluated in clinical trials for metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and obesity, and is also under investigation for neuroprotective applications in conditions such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and age-related cognitive decline. Commercial formulations, such as cGP-PRo®, are derived from New Zealand blackcurrant cultivars and hydrolysed collagen peptides.
