Overview

Cyclobarbital is a barbiturate, a class of drugs known for their sedative-hypnotic properties. It has been historically used in medicine for general anesthesia and in the treatment of epilepsy. Beyond its established clinical uses, cyclobarbital has been investigated for a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, antidiabetic, anticancer, anti-nociceptive, anti-diarrheal, antipyretic, thrombolytic, anthelmintic, and antibiofilm effects. Studies have also shown its ability to induce cytochrome P450 enzymes, specifically CYP1A2 and CYP2B1/2, and it has demonstrated binding affinity to targets like cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) and thymidylate synthase (TS) in computational analyses.
