Overview

Cyclocarya paliurus aqueous extract (CPAE) is a botanical extract derived from the leaves of *Cyclocarya paliurus* (Batal.) Ijinskaja, a plant native to southern China known as the 'sweet tea tree.' Traditionally used in Chinese folk medicine, CPAE is a complex mixture containing bioactive polysaccharides, flavonoids (such as quercetin and kaempferol derivatives), and triterpenoids. Research indicates that CPAE exerts antihyperglycemic, antihyperlipidemic, and antioxidant effects. Its mechanism involves the modulation of insulin signaling pathways in the hypothalamus and the protection of pancreatic β cells, leading to improved glucose and lipid metabolism. It has been investigated primarily in preclinical models for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.
