Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cyclocarya paliurus ethanol extract (CPEE), also referred to as ECL, is a botanical extract derived from the leaves of *Cyclocarya paliurus* (Batal.) Iljinsk, a tree native to southern China. Traditionally used as an herbal tea in Chinese folk medicine for centuries, it is employed to treat hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, and obesity. In modern preclinical research, CPEE is investigated for its potential therapeutic effects on glucolipid metabolism, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and diabetic cardiomyopathy. The extract's mechanism of action involves the modulation of the PI3K/Akt/NF-κB signaling pathway, which mediates anti-inflammatory, antifibrotic, and antiapoptotic activities. Additionally, it has been shown to promote lipophagy, thereby reducing hepatic lipid deposition. CPEE is primarily studied by academic institutions in China, including Wenzhou Medical University, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and Peking Union Medical College.
