Cyclocarya paliurus polysaccharide (CPP) is a bioactive macromolecule extracted from the leaves of *Cyclocarya paliurus*, a plant species endemic to China commonly known as the sweet tea tree. CPPs are recognized for their significant immunomodulatory, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. In preclinical models of ulcerative colitis, CPPs—particularly in their phosphorylated form (P-CPPs)—have demonstrated the ability to preserve intestinal barrier integrity by upregulating the expression of key proteins such as Mucin-2 (MUC-2), occludin, and claudin-1. The mechanism of action involves the suppression of pro-inflammatory signaling pathways, specifically the NF-κB pathway and NLRP3 inflammasome activation, which leads to a reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokines like TNF-α and IL-6. Additionally, CPPs modulate gut microbiota composition and metabolic activity, resulting in increased microbial diversity and elevated levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs).
