cyclopenthiazide

Cyclopenthiazide is a thiazide diuretic used primarily for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and edema (fluid retention), including that associated with heart failure. It acts by inhibiting the sodium-chloride symporter (SLC12A3) in the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney, leading to increased excretion of sodium, chloride, and water. This diuretic effect reduces blood volume and lowers blood pressure. Cyclopenthiazide may also be used in combination with other diuretics such as amiloride (as in Navispare). The drug is not approved by the US FDA but has been approved for use in some countries such as the UK[1][2][3][4][5][8].
