This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of four cytotoxic agents: cyclophosphamide, cytarabine, gemcitabine, and etoposide. Each drug has a distinct mechanism of action targeting rapidly dividing cancer cells: - Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that crosslinks DNA strands, leading to inhibition of DNA replication and cell death. - Cytarabine (also known as Ara-C) is a nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis by incorporating into DNA during the S-phase of the cell cycle. - Gemcitabine is another nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis by incorporation into replicating DNA and also inhibits ribonucleotide reductase. - Etoposide is a topoisomerase II inhibitor that causes double-stranded breaks in DNA during replication. This combination does not correspond to any widely recognized or named regimen in major oncology references or clinical guidelines as of June 2025. However, all four drugs are established chemotherapeutic agents used in various hematologic malignancies (such as leukemias and lymphomas) and solid tumors. The rationale for combining these agents would be to exploit their complementary mechanisms for synergistic antitumor activity.
