Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of cyclophosphamide (an alkylating agent), cytarabine (a nucleoside analog antimetabolite), and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF, a hematopoietic growth factor). Cyclophosphamide acts by cross-linking DNA strands and inhibiting DNA replication. Cytarabine inhibits DNA synthesis by acting as an antimetabolite of cytidine. G-CSF stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of neutrophil precursors to reduce the duration and severity of chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. This combination is used in hematologic malignancies such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and for stem cell mobilization prior to autologous stem cell transplantation in multiple myeloma[4][6][8]. The addition of G-CSF helps mitigate neutropenia-related complications during intensive chemotherapy.
