This is a combination chemotherapy regimen with supportive care that includes three cytotoxic agents (cyclophosphamide, epirubicin, and fluorouracil), one antimetabolite (methotrexate), and a granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (pegfilgrastim). The combination of cyclophosphamide, epirubicin, and fluorouracil (CEF/FEC) is commonly used in breast cancer treatment, with pegfilgrastim added to reduce the risk of febrile neutropenia. Epirubicin is an anthracycline that inhibits DNA and RNA synthesis. Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that cross-links DNA. Fluorouracil is an antimetabolite that interferes with DNA synthesis. Methotrexate inhibits dihydrofolate reductase. Pegfilgrastim stimulates neutrophil production to counteract chemotherapy-induced neutropenia.
