This is a combination chemotherapy and targeted therapy regimen consisting of four drugs: - Cyclophosphamide (an alkylating agent) - Epirubicin (an anthracycline antibiotic) - Fluorouracil (5-FU; an antimetabolite/pyrimidine analog) - Trastuzumab (a monoclonal antibody targeting HER2) The regimen is primarily used for the treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer. Cyclophosphamide works by cross-linking DNA strands, leading to cell death. Epirubicin intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, preventing DNA replication. Fluorouracil inhibits thymidylate synthase, disrupting DNA synthesis. Trastuzumab binds to the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), blocking its signaling and marking cells for immune destruction. This combination is typically administered in early-stage or locally advanced HER2-positive breast cancer as neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapy to reduce recurrence risk or shrink tumors before surgery[5][6][7]. The addition of trastuzumab specifically targets cancers overexpressing HER2 protein.
